Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year. A special welcome to the new students and parents who joined our Eaglet family!
Attached to this letter is a calendar for September, which indicates Primary School happenings for the month. Please keep it handy for future reference. A new calendar will be sent home monthly along with the Eaglet. The newsletter will include important information regarding Primary School. You should also refer to the school calendar that was included in your parental brochure, particularly noting the dates and times of conference days and the Primary School Concert.
Come meet your child’s teachers and find out what his typical day involves. Primary School Open House will be held on Thursday, Sep. 17, at 7:00 PM. We will meet in the gym for a short general meeting. Following the meeting, parents will go to the individual classrooms where they will meet the teachers, who will share information about their classroom procedures and academics. The success of our students and our school depends on parental support. We look forward to seeing you on Sep. 17. We are in the process of organizing a babysitting service for the evening of Open House. More information and details will be sent home shortly.
Open House is not intended to be a conference night. Teachers are not to discuss individual students at Open House. If you would like an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with the teacher, please schedule a private conference with the teacher.
We are once again enrolled in the General Mills Box Tops for Education program. Please send in any box tops you collected over the summer, and ask friends, relatives and neighbors to save them for us throughout the year. Everyone can help by clipping and sending in the eligible Box Tops logos. The Box Tops program earns cash for our school. You should have received a list of eligible products via your child’s folder. Please read the information on the back of the attached calendar to see what has to offer you.
We also ask that you participate in the Community Cash for Schools program. By simply snipping and sending to school the from Community products, you will help us earn cash for our school.
The Box Tops and Community Cash programs help us to buy classroom and playground supplies for Primary School.
Each Friday is Spirit Day in Primary School. All students are asked to wear a Ridgewood shirt. There is a class competition throughout football season. The winning class will be rewarded with a cookie cake. Show your spirit!
Every parent should have received a parental brochure (mailed with your registration packet in August). This is your source of information concerning school policies and procedures. Please become familiar with the information provided, particularly in the Primary School Section. If, at any time, you have questions or concerns about Ridgewood, Primary School, or your child’s particular classroom, please address those concerns first with your child’s teacher.
The Primary School day actually begins with the ringing of the 8:25 a.m. bell. At that time, students in grades 1-4 line up on the playground for the Pledge of Allegiance and The National Anthem. Following this morning procedure, all students go to the classroom for a homeroom period, during which roll and lunch orders are taken. Homeroom ends at 8:35 and instruction begins. Students arriving after 8:35 are tardy and the should report to the office and advise the secretary of their child’s arrival and, if necessary, order lunch.
In order to insure your child has the opportunity to unpack and prepare to start the day in a relaxed atmosphere, we encourage you to drop your child off between 8:15 and 8:25 a.m. each morning. Bid him/her goodbye , allow him/her to enter the classroom, and leave. Loitering in the hall only delays the separation and distracts the student from engaging in classroom procedures the teacher is trying to develop. Rest assured the teachers are prepared and experienced in dealing with separation anxiety.
Afternoon dismissal is at 3:00. Unless a student is enrolled in After School Care, dismissal is from the carpool gate on A Street. If you choose to pick up you child on foot, please meet him at the carpool gate and notify the teacher on duty.
Students are not dismissed from the classroom door. If you must pick up your child before 3:00, please report to the office. The secretary will call your child from the classroom.
