We are looking forward to another great Book Fair this year. Other times of operation are Monday, November 23. 8 AM-5 PM; and Tuesday, November 24. 8 AM-3:00 PM. See you at the Fair!
Guidance Counselor, Susan Schenken, organized the observance of “Red Ribbon Week” at Ridgewood. Red Ribbon Week is a nationwide campaign for drug awareness. Red ribbons were distributed to students, and a poster contest was held.
Your child may enjoy having a yearbook for the 2009-2010 session. Yearbooks may be ordered from Lauren Thompson, journalism instructor. The price is $ 75.00 each. Ridgewood’s all-color yearbook has earned several state awards.
You will soon be receiving information regarding Ridgewood’s Annual Giving Campaign. Your support makes possible a wide variety of projects. Although contributions are accepted throughout the year, they must be dated by December 31, 2009 for a 2009 tax credit. If you need an additional contribution envelope, please all the school office at 835-2545 to have one sent to you.
Middle School six-weeks’ tests for the second six-weeks will be administered from 9 November through 13 November. Schedules for these tests will be distributed on November 4th.
Ridgewood Middle School suggests the following homework time periods: fifth and sixth graders, one hour each evening Sunday through Thursday; seventh and eighth graders, one and one-half hours Sunday through Thursday. It is recommended that students study for at least this length of time even if the student claims that the homework is completed before the time has passed. Students can always copy an assignment over or rewrite notes in a notebook. It is best to develop the habit of setting aside this work time. It will pay dividends in later years as the student’s work load increases. (This time is based on the assumption that the child is working for that time. It does not allow time for snacks, telephones, and the like.)
Please cooperate with the traffic pattern before and after school. Drivers are asked to establish a pattern of
driving from Airline on Pasadena toward Giuffrias on A Street, and toward Airline on Giuffrias. Also, please do not block the Primary School carpool lanes on A Street. The carpool line moves very swiftly, but parked cars interfere with the flow of traffic and cause a dangerous situation. Middle School students are asked to avoid using the gate on A Street for afternoon dismissal unless they are waiting for a ride in a Primary School carpool to avoid a backup of traffic on A Street.
We also require students to wait inside the school gates for their own safety.
