EAGLET DECEMBER 2009

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY
Thanks to all who joined us to make Grandparents’ Day very special for each of our students. The students were so very excited to share their school with their grandparents and special friends, and the teachers were happy to meet all of our special guests. Photos will be sent home in students’ folders as soon as they are printed.

ENTRANCE EXAM
Entrance exams for new students interested in entering Ridgewood for the 2010-2011 school year will be administered on Saturday, 13 March. Applications can be obtained by calling the school office at 835-2545. Pre-kindergarten enrollment is on a first come first served basis and also requires an application. The entrance requirement for pre-kindergarten is that the child be 4 years old by October 15, and kindergarten students must be 5 years old by October 15.

SAVE! SAVE! SAVE!
Please continue to save and send in your General Mills Box Tops and your UPCs for our Community Cash for Schools program.

THEY HAVE SPIRIT!
Third grade students are the winners of the Primary School Spirit Competition. Congratulations and enjoy that cookie cake!

SPOTLIGHT ON STUDENTS
Congratulations to all Primary School students who performed at Grandparents’ Day. Your music was enjoyed by all and your teachers are very proud of you.

The annual Honor Awards ceremony was held on November 4. At this ceremony, awards were presented to the student in each grade who earned the highest grade point average in the last school year (2008-2009). Congratulations to the students who were “top in their class” last year: Davison Drumm (1st Grade), Chloe Yava (2nd Grade), Montgomery Drumm (3rd Grade), Cameron Schwartz (4th Grade). Keep up the good work!

ANOTHER SUCCESS
Thanks to all for another successful book fair. We could not have done it without your support behind the scene (setting up), working at the fair, and especially our customers!

TOY DRIVE
The Library Club is sponsoring the Children’s Hospital Toy Drive here at Ridgewood. Please support this wonderful program that supplies toys for children who must spend their Christmas in the hospital. Because the toys are going to ill children, they must be NEW toys. Also, please do NOT gift wrap the toys. The Toy Drive continues through Thursday, December 10. “ONE TOY EQUALS ONE SMILE!”

PLEASE GIVE
You should have recently received information regarding Ridgewood’s Annual Giving Campaign. Your support makes possible a wide variety of projects. It is understandably difficult for many of us to contribute a lump sum at this time, but please consider sending in a pledge. Pledges can be paid in increments, with final payment made by the end of the school year. All donations, no matter the amount, are greatly appreciated and help make Ridgewood a better school for all of our students.

BAND COLORING CONTEST
Coloring sheets may be purchased from band officers starting Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 for $1 each. Cash prizes will be awarded in the following age categories: up to 1st grade, 2nd-3rd grade, 4th-6th grade, & 7th grade and up. Cash amounts depend upon the number of entries per category, with the band receiving half of the proceeds. Anyone of any age (including friends, parents, faculty) may enter the contest, with the exception of senior high band officers and select judges. Coloring sheets are due in the office on or before Monday, December 14th. Pictures will be on display, and winners will be announced at the Ione Rasmussen Memorial (Holiday) Concert, Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 after 2 p.m. If you would like your sheet back, you may take it off the wall after the concert on your own; otherwise, sheets will not be returned. For any adults who wish to participate and support the band, but do not want to compete for cash, you may write “exempt” on the back by your name.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Christmas Holidays are December 21 through January 1. School resumes on Monday, January 4, 2010. The Primary School Faculty wishes everyone a happy and safe holiday season.
