Jeunesse – December 2016
Volume 27 Number 4 December 2016
The Ridgewood faculty and staff wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. Classes will resume on 2 January 2017.
Band Director Sharon Meyer and the Golden Eagle band presented the annual Ione Rasmussen Holiday Concert on Thursday, 15 December. The Concert opened with a performance by the Varsity Band, followed by members of both the Junior Varsity and Cadet Bands, all groups playing traditional Christmas and Hanukkah songs. Next was a program of several seasonal pieces presented by varied combinations of Cadet, Junior Varsity, and Varsity Band members, concluding with the Mass Band performance of “Frosty the Snowman.” The concert, always popular with students, pleased them once again. Congratulations and thanks to Ms. Meyer and all the band students!
Congratulations to the following students who have been selected for District VI Honor Band: In the seventh and eighth grade Junior High section, Adam Raslan, 2nd chair tenor saxophone; Naser Raslan, 2nd chair trombone; and Matthew Rudiger, 3rd chair tuba. Chosen for the fifth and sixth grade Elementary section: Jenna DeLatte, 5th chair clarinet; Sofia DiVincenti, 5th chair alto saxophone; and Jackson Melancon, 5th chair percussion.
Seventh and eighth graders should be preparing their projects for the upcoming Social Studies Fair to be held on 9 February. Students have been issued instructions for projects in their history classes. Fifth and sixth graders will have their own fair later in the spring.
The Entrance Test for new students entering Ridgewood in the 2017-2018 school session will be administered
on Saturday, 18 February 2017. If you need an application, please call the main office at 835-2545.
The Ridgewood Band can always use additional musical instruments. If you have any usable instruments that you would like to donate, please call the office at 835-2545.
Now is the time to make plans for mid-term exams. Exams for grades 5-12 begin on 9 January (Monday) and end on 13 January (Friday) Regular classes will not be held on those days. Students will report directly to their exam rooms at the time of the morning bell. Students in grades five and six may take until 10:30 to complete their exams. Students in grades seven and eight may take until 11:40. Students are dismissed after their exams are completed for the day. Lunch will be available if students need to purchase it. Parents should make transportation arrangements if you want your child to leave school prior to his/her normal transportation time. If your child is staying on campus, please instruct him/her what you would like him/her to do (study, work in the
library, etc.) There are no organized activities. Students are not allowed to bring electronic games, MP3 players, or similar equipment. Exam schedules will be distributed on 4 January. Six-weeks’ tests in the third six-weeks are optional on the part of the teachers.
Parents, please instruct your children that if they are not in an assigned carpool, they should wait for their rides at gates other than the carpool gate. Too many students standing or playing in that area make exiting difficult for the younger children waiting for their rides there.
As you enjoy your holidays, remember our service men and women far from home stationed all over the world.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
