Jeunesse – February 2018

Information has been distributed to fifth and sixth graders regarding their Social Studies Fair to be held in the gym on 18 April. Students will make projects on topics from their history courses. They should choose topics they have studied in class, or will have studied by the end of the year, Events, structures, and inventions are all good topics, but students are not limited to those choices. The history teacher will approve the topics. The maximum size for projects is 30×36 inches, and each project should have a title. Encourage your child to have fun making the displays.

In the recent LMEA Solo-Ensemble Assessment, several students received recognition for their performances.

Superior solos: In fifth grade- Flute, Dominic Figaro; Clarinet, Haitham Aldahir, Sophia Amay; Alto Saxophone, Henry Lewandowski; Xyophone, Colston Chatagnier. In sixth grade- Bass Clarinet, Mohammed Quraan; Alto Saxophone, Gavin Couch, Sofia DiVincenti; Tenor Saxophone, Sofia DiVincenti; Trumpet, Taylor Mahoney; Bells, Emma Shapiro, Josh Zhuang; Snare Drum, Josh Zhuang. In seventh grade- Flute, Enni Zhuang; Alto Saxophone, Vijeya Simma; Trumpet, Keegan Cox, Zakaria Heyer; Bells, Jackson Melancon; Snare Drum, Jackson Melancon.

Superior Ensembles: In fifth grade- Double Trio, Henry Lewandowski, Haitham Aldahir, Emma Zelaya, Dominic Figaro, Morgan Worley, Nicholas Witte, Sophia Amaya; Clarinet Trio, Morgan Worley, Sophia Amaya, Haitham Aldahir. In sixth grade- Wind Ensemble, Taylor Mahoney, Sofia Di Vincenti, Gavin Couch, Mohammed Quraan.   In  seventh grade- Alto Sax Duet, Sofia DiVincenti, Gavin Couch; Trumpet/Tenor Duet, Taylor Mahoney and Sofia DiVincenti; Wind Ensemble, Rochelle Griffin, Enni Zhuang, Vijeya Simma, Keegan Cox, Zakaria Heyer, Jackson Melancon; Trumpet Duet, Keegan Cox and Zakaria Heyer; Sax/Trumpet Duet, Vijeya Simma and Ms. Meyer.

International Day is coming! Mark your calendars for Saturday, 3 March! International Day celebrates our different cultures through art, music, stories, dress, sports, education and international cuisine.  This year it will be Saturday, 3 March, 2018 from 11am-4pm.  Flyers asking for volunteers and food donations have been sent home.  If you have any questions, you can call Melissa Clouse at 504-835-2545 or email mclouse@ridgewoodprep.com.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Congratulations to sixth grader, Sofia DiVincenti for submitting the winning design in the contest for the International Day T-shirt. Good job, Sofia!

Mark your calendars for Thursday, 19 April – when Ridgewood will hold its annual Fish Fry and Social! The evening will be a social event featuring a fish fry, raffles, and fun for students, families, and friends. We are still seeking donations for the raffle board.  If you own a business, or know someone who owns a business, and are interested in donating an item to use in a raffle, it will be greatly appreciated. Donations can be brought to the school office, or a pick-up can be arranged. Remember that Ridgewood is a non-profit 501, (c)(3) organization, and all donations are tax deductible (ID#72-0720383). Re-registration forms were recently mailed. In order to secure a place for your child for the 2018-2019 session, please complete and return the form as soon as possible.
