EAGLET SEPTEMBER 2018

20 September 2018 | Filed in Newsletters

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year.  A special welcome to the new students and parents who joined our Eaglet family!

Attached to this letter is a calendar for September, which indicates Primary School happenings for the month.  Please keep it handy for future reference.  A new calendar will be sent home monthly along with the Eaglet.  The newsletter will include important information regarding Primary School. You should also refer to the school calendar that was included in your parental brochure.

PRIMARY OPEN HOUSE

Come meet your child’s teachers and receive information about expectations, procedures and schedules specific to each grade level.  Primary School Open House will be held on Wednesday, Sep. 5.  The evening begins with a reception from 6:30 PM until 7:00 PM.  At 7:00 we will meet in the gym for a short general meeting.  Following the meeting, parents will go to the individual classrooms where they will meet the teachers, who will share information about their classroom procedures and academics.  Classroom visits end at 8:00.  The success of our students and our school depends on parental support.  We look forward to seeing you on Sep. 5.  Open House is not intended to be a conference night.  Teachers are not to discuss individual students at Open House.  If you would like an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with the teacher, please schedule a private conference with the teacher.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

We are once again enrolled in the General Mills Box Tops for Education program.   Please send in any box tops you collected over the summer, and ask friends, relatives and neighbors to save them for us throughout the year.  Everyone can help by clipping and sending in the eligible Box Tops logos.  The Box Tops program earns cash for our school and has been very helpful in allowing us to purchase playground equipment and various classroom resources.  Ask your family and friends to save for us too!   See the attached flyer for eligible products.

Please note:  There is an expiration date on each box top.  If possible, we suggest you clip the box top as soon as you purchase the product.  By the time you use the product, the box top might be expired.  Please check the expiration date before you send it to school.  If you are interested in helping “clip and pack” box tops, please let a teacher know and we will be in touch.  Thanks!

COMMUNITY CASH FOR SCHOOLS

We also ask that you participate in the Community Cash for Schools program.  By simply snipping and sending to school the UPCs (barcodes) from Community products, you will help us earn cash for our school. Information on this program is also attached.

EAGLE SPIRIT

Each Friday is Spirit Day in Primary School.  All students are asked to wear a Ridgewood shirt. There is a class competition throughout football season.  If your child does not have a Ridgewood shirt, the teacher will be happy to charge one to your school account with written permission from you.  As requested by some parents, we have ordered shirts (T-shirts and collared shirts) in size XS.  A notice will be sent home as soon as the shirts arrive.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Every parent should have received a parental brochure.  This is your source of information concerning school policies and procedures.  Please become familiar with the information provided, particularly in the Primary School Section.  If, at any time, you have questions or concerns about Ridgewood, Primary School, or your child’s particular classroom, please address those concerns first with your child’s teacher.

PRIMARY “SCHOOL DAY”

The Primary School day begins with the ringing of the 8:25 a.m. bell.  All students in grades PreK – 4 have a homeroom period from 8:25 – 8:35, during which roll and lunch orders are taken.  Homeroom ends at 8:35 and instruction begins. Students arriving after 8:35 are tardy and the PARENT should report to the office and advise the secretary of their child’s arrival and, if necessary, order lunch.  Office staff will escort tardy students to their classrooms.

In order to insure your child has the opportunity to unpack and prepare to start the day in a relaxed atmosphere, we encourage you to drop your child off between 8:15 and 8:25 a.m. each morning.  Bid him/her goodbye OUTSIDE (grades K-4), allow him/her to enter the classroom INDEPENDENTLY, and leave PROMPTLY. PRE-K parents may walk their children to the CLASSROOM DOOR.  Loitering in the hall only delays the separation and distracts the student from engaging in classroom procedures the teacher is trying to develop.  Rest assured the teachers are prepared and experienced in dealing with separation anxiety.

Afternoon dismissal is at 3:00.  Unless a student is enrolled in After School Care, dismissal is from the carpool gate on A Street.  If you choose to pick up your child on foot, please park in the fenced lot on the corner of A Street and Giuffrias.  Come to the carpool gate and notify the teacher on duty.

Students are not dismissed from the classroom door.  If you must pick up your child before 3:00, please report to the office.  The secretary will call your child from the classroom.

LOOKING AHEAD

Primary School Conference Day will be held on Thursday, October 4. Conferences are required in order to receive the first report card.  More information and appointment times will be sent home at the end of September.

LOOKING WAAAAAY AHEAD!

Please mark your calendars now for the Primary School Spring Concert on Thursday, April 25.  This program is the culminating activity for all primary school students’ music class.  All students in grades PreK through Fourth Grade are expected to participate.
